I started playing 40k when the 3rd edition came out back in 1998. As many others my first army were Space Marines and they became the Purified Ravens. I created my own chapter, because I wanted something different than everybody else played and I could freely choose the colours for them. Their power armour ended up being Hawk Turquoise, and again because I hadn’t seen any other armies with that colour at the time.

Within a couple of years, I got around 3000 pts painted and played many nice games with them. Further down the page is a picture of this army. Then other projects came, and they just lay in boxes in my flat for some years.

When the latest Space Marine codex came out, I decided to revisit my space marines. My old models were broken apart and were now badly painted compared to my other armies. So I decided to make a new Purified Ravens army, with shiny new models and units. They still have turquoise power armour, with some red and grey details, but I decided to paint them as good as possible. Not just normal tabletop standard, but top quality with extra added green stuff details and cool conversions.

It might be an ambitious project and take long time, but I think it is worth it. Below are three test models for the colour scheme, which were entered in the Games Workshop competition, called Chapter Master.

Subject: The Purified Ravens Space Marine Chapter

Recipient: Lord Inquisitor Callum, Methyr Sector

I’m sending you this message to bring to your attention to the Astartes Chapter of the Purified Ravens. I do not believe that we have anything to fear from them, but even the most loyal can turn against you.

I encountered them first time on Clytia, where the local militia struggled with an Ork incursion. The Purified Ravens suddenly appeared out of nowhere and landed their forces on the planet. They informed the militia to stand down and attacked the Orks with a passion unbelievable. In mere three days they fought down the Orks and disappeared as suddenly as they came.

I have now, seven months later, visited the Purified Ravens homeworld and talked to their Chief Librarian Rimus. He was very secretive and if it weren’t for me being an inquisitor, I would never even have landed on Ravena. The Chapter seemed more devout to the God-Emperor than others, but are very isolated from the Imperium rather by choice than by needs.

I will follow their activities closely in the future, when I’m not involved elsewhere. Unfortunately we have seen examples of autonomy leading to heresy before, and I have only seen a fraction of their secrets.
